The Philadelphia Police Foundation proudly supports the Philadelphia Police Department’s efforts to bring back the Mounted Unit. Cops and horses were a vital part of the Department’s patrol strategy until 2004 when the unit was disbanded due to budgetary constraints.
This high-visibility unit is great for patrolling our neighborhoods, our Center City shopping corridors and areas in Fairmount Park. Horses on patrol are not only an excellent community relations tool, but they are great for crowds and security at special events, parades and demonstrations. Help the PPD bring the horses back to our city streets.
