Welcome to Philadelphia's future Real-Time Crime Center. It's a virtual marketplace, but not for traders, for law enforcement. The Real-Time Crime Center (RTCC) leverages technology to provide 24x7 accurate information and investigative support to our law enforcement officers and detectives in the field, so that they can spend most of their time doing what they do best: problem-solving and making our city safer.

Information + Integration = 24x7 Smart Policing

No longer would detectives have to search through infinite paper reports and separate databases to find that critical piece of information needed for their investigation. The RTCC is a sophisticated data warehouse that integrates separate databases into a centralized location. It's mobility-enabled, so it can be accessed by anyone in the field, or information can be directly sent to a handheld device or laptop.

Databases which would be connected in the RTCC:
  • Incident Databases and Criminal Complaints
  • Arrest Records and photographs
  • Parole and Probation Databases
  • National Crime Databases
  • 911 Call Records
  • Crime Mapping Systems

Imagine all the police shows (think CSI: New York or Law and Order) that you've seen where fast-moving and colorful images of data flash on screen, revealing the bad guy's identity within minutes. In reality, it's not minutes, but a Real-Time Crime Center does drastically cut the amount of time needed to collect and analyze information into hours and days, not weeks and months. The New York City Police Department has an actual real-time crime center - they were the first municipal law enforcement agency to build one in this country. It works. They built it with the help of their Police Foundation. They did it. Why can't we?
